2012 Shop Orginization

On Dec 1st the mechanical team under the expert leadership of Mr. Wolf had identified some shop closet organizational tasks in prep for build season.  We took the opportunity to prepare 2 shelves for the Kit Of Parts (KOP) that the team receives at Kick off.  These two eye level shelves in the green metal shelf unit in the north east corner of the shop closet are labeled "KOP Mech" and "KOP Elec".  These should be kept clear until the day of Kick Off once the KOP is inventoried, motors labeled, etc and set on the shelves so that everyone can quickly identify where the 2012 KOP components are.  We also put a white "2012 Project Notebook" on one of the shelves for paperwork, component manuals, etc., that are accumulated during build season.

This shelf space was created by organizing and consolidating much of the "stuff" that accumulated there over the summer.  Great care was taken to combine like electrical supplies (tie wraps, wire spools, fuses, motors, cables, tools, meters, etc.) so that nothing was lost and should be much easier to locate.  All the loose 8-1/2 x 11 electrical spec sheets and circuit info was consolidated into one stack and left clearly visible on one of the front shelves for the electrical team to disposition.

All the robot batteries were temporally located on the lower shelf of the black steel shelf unit just to the right of the red tool box as you are facing it.  We should determine the best place to set up the charging station.  Also there was at least one battery that was label bad.  It should be disposed.

 We also started consolidating supplies out of the Multi-Purpose-Pit-Thingy so that like components will be all in one place.  Labeling and the road map is key.  Those are the next steps.

It would be good once we empty the pit thingy bins to keep them in once place so they don't get reallocated and can be easily packed for competition. Also the pit thing makes a great charging station for all types of batteries and that was the intended purpose of it during the off season originally.
