FIRST® Lego League Resources

FIRST Lego League, or FLL, introduces science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to children ages 4-16* through fun, exciting hands-on learning. FIRST LEGO League participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program, helping today’s students and teachers build a better future together. In FIRST LEGO League, students engage in hands-on STEM experiences, building confidence, growing their knowledge and developing habits of learning. FIRST LEGO League’s three divisions inspire youth to experiment and grow their critical thinking, coding and design skills through hands-on STEM learning and robotics.

As teams navigate their way through the FLL season, we have found and created several documents, websites, and events that may be useful for FLL Teams.

1511 FLL Grant Program

1511 Seeks to support the Rochester area FLL teams in several ways.  One of our programs is a need based grant program by which FLL teams can apply for assistance from T-shirts through full Kit & Tournament payments.  Additionally, we have several students and mentors that are able to assist with technical issues and projects.  For teams needing support Grant Applications are available, and are due just prior to the start of the season.

Does your team need a grant?

FLL Qualifier

Team 1511 Rolling Thunder hosts an FLL qualifier every year around the beginning of competition season. The point of this qualifier is to give nearby teams a chance to compete with other teams, and get the opportunity to move on to the next round.  Team 1511 believes that it is crucial to teach school aged children the importance of science and technology which is why the qualifier is so important to our team. FLL teams are geared towards children ages nine through fourteen and helps to instill such values as gracious professionalism, cooperation, and hard work while incorporating the fun and excitement of a competitive sport.

1511 FLL Summer Camps

Each year team 1511 hosts a series of summer camps around Rochester.  They are one day events designed to get students familiar with LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 and get them thinking along the lines of FLL challenges.  1511 students mentor small teams of younger students to build the robots and compete in small challenges.  The camps are available through the Town of Gates and Town of Penfield Recreation Centers.  To register for either camp, please visit the corresponding town’s recreational website and register online.
