07:44- We ended up walking to the wrong entrance and back when we got to the Stade Uniprix (Translation: Uniprix Stadium). It’s -2 outside right now…
Quote of the day, “1511 with our ratchet RC puller!”
Many of us cannot feel our hands or faces. Why did we come to a regional competition where the air would hurt our faces? How we love you, Canada.
08:43- Apparently the police here are on strike, but of course necessary positions such as firefighters, police, etc. are not allowed to actually strike, so instead they are wearing red camo pants to draw attention to their cause.
Seriously, we’ve just entered the venue (which is really flashy and swaggy) and several people have mentioned our pants or asked us if we were the police. This trip should be fairly interesting…
08:49- I made the mistake of looking right into the colorful flashing lights above the field. They’re pretty sweet, but they hurt my eyes after a while.
10:59- Went with the Chairman’s crew to watch them practice. They’re absolutely, positively fantastic! We are definitely a top contender for this award.
Also went to explore the pits a bit and meet some of the teams. So much French here, but I’m not worried. It should make for a fun and different experience than what the team is used to. New experiences, that’s what FIRST is all about. Cheesy, huh?
12:25- Had our 1st practice match. Looks like we’re starting off a little shaky, but that’s ok. After all, this is what practice is for.
14:08- We went through the pits and handed out the Personal Recognition Award packets to each team. Almost half of them either didn’t speak English or spoke very little, but Philippe was with us to help translate. We met a lot of great people and so many impressive teams! Several of them were even excited to meet a team from Rochester.
For the rest of the day we continued on with a few more shaky practice matches. We stayed at the stadium a bit late for pit crew to fix the robot, so we should be better off tomorrow during the Qualification Matches. It will be fantastic to watch our robot in full on competition mode tomorrow! Drive team and pit crew: Stay awesome, and good luck!
End log.
